If you are reading this article, it’s highly likely that you are a keen gardener and although you love spending time in your garden, maybe things are getting on top of you and you would like to figure out some ways to make gardening a little easier. It can sometimes be a difficult task here in Australia because we do get our fair share of hot weather here and while this is incredibly conducive to doing your gardening in the first place, it also means that you can get pretty tired very quickly. It’s going to take a little bit of planning on your part to make gardening a little easier and it will allow your time out there to be more constructive.
One of the first things that you need is one of the John Deere ride on mowers and not only are you getting a machine that makes cutting your lawn a lot easier but you are getting a quality brand as well. This should help to shave a lot of time off cutting the grass which leaves you more time to concentrate on your flower beds and the weeding. It’s all about working smarter instead of working harder in the garden and the following are just some top tips to make that happen.
- Don’t let weeds take over your garden – Not only do weeds destroy a perfectly good lawn but if you let them get out of control then they can increase your work drastically and you are supposed to be enjoying your retirement. The key is to find them in your lawn and flower beds when they are small because you can usually pull them out with your hand with no problems at all.
- Be sure to have good soil – If there is great soil in your garden then you can grow almost anything and in order for it to be good enough you should be using compost on a regular basis. Instead of throwing old leaves and other debris away, why not start your own compost pile and then you have fertiliser all the time to help your flowers and vegetables to grow.
- Put plants & shrubs in their groups – Many gardeners think that it is a great idea to have many different plants and shrubs all grouped together because it provides lots of colour. This is your first mistake because some of these plants need frequent watering while others do not and so this makes the whole watering process more complicated than it has to be.
- Always add some mulch – Mulch is readily available and incredibly affordable to buy and its purpose is to protect your flowers and to keep weeds down to the bare minimum. It also helps to keep moisture in the ground where it should be and that means less watering for you.
Follow these four pieces of advice and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have a beautiful garden and a beautiful lawn.
